
Kota Kinabalu: Media engagement is not just about positive publicity but about creating narratives that can drive social and economic change, said Sabah Electricity Chief Executive Officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar.
“No one can deny the role of journalists and mass media in State development. You can change societal thinking through your writing and the strength of your writing’s sharpness can bring down or develop a country.
Advertisement“Therefore, in the context of Sabah Electricity, the media acts as an information conduit between Sabah Electricity and the community through coverage and analysis published regarding relevant and consistent electrical supply development issues throughout the year,” he said at the Sabah Electricity’s media luncheon in conjunction with Christmas here, Wednesday.
Yaakob was represented by Sabah Electricity Senior General Manager (Asset Management), Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof.

Meanwhile, Sabah Electricity Chief Corporate Communication Officer Lisa Wan said the gathering is not just an introduction but a pledge between Sabah Electricity and the media to build trust and create a partnership that inspires growth, understanding and hope.
“The media are the voice of the people and the bridge that connects Sabah Electricity with the communities we serve.
“Sabah Electricity operates in a dynamic and challenging landscape. Our mission goes beyond delivering electricity, it is about empowering lives and enabling the growth of Sabah’s economy, communities and future.
“From flood mitigation efforts to delivering clean energy, from solar and genset initiatives in remote areas to investing millions in infrastructure upgrading and generation capacity build-up, we are committed to lighting up lives.
“Transparency and open communication are not just buzzwords for us, they are the foundation of our relationship with the media.
“We understand the importance of being accountable and we value constructive criticism as it drives us to improve,” she said, urging the media to highlight not just the challenges but also the solutions.
Meanwhile, the luncheon saw five journalists from various media organisations receiving contributions from Sabah Electricity as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
In addition, Rumah Bukit Harapan also received contributions from Sabah Electricity to help the home provide a more conducive home for its residents.
“This contribution is not much but is hoped to help reduce the burden,” said Lisa.
She said Sabah Electricity is not just about power lines or infrastructure, adding that the new slogan, Energising the Future, is about empowering people, building trust and fostering collaboration that creates an energised and developed Sabah.
