The proposed MediAsas health insurance and takaful plan is expected to start from RM65 a month for its basic plan.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the pricing is still being refined as the government finalises the scheme’s premium structure, eligibility and coverage. He added that MediAsas is intended to remain affordable for middle-income Malaysians while complementing Malaysia’s existing public healthcare system.
Latest Premium Estimate
When the scheme was first introduced as the Base Medical and Health Insurance and Takaful (MHIT) Plan, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) estimated that premiums could start from RM50 a month. The scheme has since been rebranded as MediAsas, with the estimate since revised.
Under MediAsas, customers will be able to choose between two plans. MediAsas Teras is the standard plan, while MediAsas Fleksi offers additional benefits. Final pricing and product details will be announced before the nationwide rollout.
Pilot Programme Starts End Of July
The pilot programme will involve six insurers and takaful operators, together with selected private hospitals in the Klang Valley, before the scheme is rolled out nationwide in January 2027.
According to the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the pilot phase will be used to fine-tune the product, pricing and implementation before MediAsas becomes available across the country.
