‘Mee Pok’ Controversy: Nan Yang Coffee House Files Another Police Report, Urges Action Against False Info

The post ‘Mee Pok’ Controversy: Nan Yang Coffee House Files Another Police Report, Urges Action Against False Info appeared first on WORLD OF BUZZ.

Nan Yang Coffee House has filed another police report after being falsely accused on social media of selling pork disguised as “Mee Pok” (面薄). The operators are calling on the authorities to investigate and take action against those spreading false information.

The operators, Lin Sheng Fa and Xie Shi Ling (transliterations), lodged the report at the Segamat Police Station on Monday (10 August). According to them, several other business owners had previously contacted them sharing similar experiences.

Other business owners face similar struggles

Some business owners claimed they had spent between RM30,000 and RM40,000 pursuing action, only to see little progress made against the social media page allegedly responsible.

Others said they had spent RM7,000 to RM8,000 on legal action, but were eventually told that the accused party lacked the funds to pay compensation.

“They spent time and money, but still did not get the outcome they wanted,” Shi Ling said.

Seeking legal recourse and accountability

Shi Ling stated that they are now discussing their next steps after being offered legal assistance. Her message was simple: those who spread false information must be held accountable so that there are no further victims.

The coordinator of the Segamat Pakatan Harapan Constituency Office, Liao, said he first contacted the affected business owners the day after the incident, initially acting in his personal capacity.

He helped connect them with officials from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) after learning there had been an error in the original complaint.

Political representatives step in

As a DAP member, Liao also raised the matter with party representatives, who advised the affected businesses to continue pursuing legal action. DAP subsequently appointed Labis MP Pang Hok Liong to assist with the allegations.

Although the social media page in question has since been shut down, Liao noted that the page had previously posted a provocative remark suggesting that if “1 page goes down, 10 more could reappear,” raising concerns that similar pages might simply resurface.

Verifying facts to maintain social harmony

“We are not trying to turn this into a racial issue,” Liao said, as reported by Guang Ming Daily.

“But before anyone spreads information, they must verify the facts first for the sake of maintaining harmony in our society,” he added.
