PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) Information Chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has called for a private meeting between Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to resolve misunderstandings surrounding allegations of party fund misuse.

In a statement, Tun Faisal addressed claims that the Pagoh MP had misappropriated party funds and kept them at his residence, describing the accusations as false and baseless.

“It would be more appropriate for the matter to be clarified through a private, face-to-face meeting between the two leaders to avoid prolonged misunderstanding.”

“Based on Muhyiddin’s statement, I am of the view that it reflects his statesmanship and magnanimity, as he seeks to prioritise the agenda of ummah unity, the people’s agenda,“ he said.

Tun Faisal then explained that all political contributions were deposited into party accounts and managed transparently by the party’s Treasurer-General.

“If there had been any intention to misuse party funds, it could have been done in various ways while he was in power, including through personal or corporate accounts or other means. This did not occur,” the statement said.

He also dismissed assertions that Muhyiddin sought to become Prime Minister solely to avoid imprisonment, calling such claims illogical.

“Muhyiddin had previously expressed his intention not to contest the BERSATU presidency in 2023, he would have not announced his intention (to not contest) if he was acting out of fear of prosecution,” Tun Faisal said.

Commenting on Dr Mahathir’s remarks, Tun Faisal said it was likely that inaccurate information had been conveyed to the former Prime Minister.

Earlier today, UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi questioned if Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin may continue to work together, following serious allegations raised between the two veteran political figures.

He also questioned why Muhyiddin has not taken legal action against Dr Mahathir over the allegations, suggesting that the absence of a defamation suit could signal political desperation ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16).

“Does this mean Muhyiddin is seeking Mahathir’s support to secure victory in GE16?” Puad asked in a statement.

The issue surfaced after a two-minute video clip circulated widely on WhatsApp on Friday morning, purportedly showing Dr Mahathir accusing Muhyiddin of misappropriating party funds during a meeting between Johor Bersatu Youth wing members and the former Langkawi MP in Putrajaya earlier this week.

The video was accompanied by a caption alleging that Dr Mahathir claimed Muhyiddin wanted to become prime minister out of fear of being imprisoned.

In the recording, Dr Mahathir is heard saying that an unnamed individual “has a problem” and “wants to be prime minister not to serve” but because he is worried about going to jail.

Muhyiddin on the other hand has categorically denied allegations by the centenarian that he stole party funds and kept the money at his home, describing the claim as reckless, baseless and entirely untrue. – December 15, 2025
