
For the first time in the history of the Scooby-Doo franchise, Scooby-Doo: Origins has cast a real dog. Over the last five decades, we have been blessed with three theatrical films, more than a dozen animated series, and nearly 40 animated home entertainment movies, all centred on a precious pup with a nose for mystery. Now, the real deal finally has a face, as we get to meet the adorable dog cast to bring the iconic character to life in Netflix’s upcoming Scooby-Doo live-action series.
The teaser for Netflix’s Scooby-Doo: Origins is out, and the internet cannot get over the cuteness of a very good boy. Honestly, can you blame them? There’s a real dog on screen, playing the character generations of us have adored. If adoption rates for this breed don’t spike by the time this series drops, we’ll be very surprised.

In the new teaser of Scooby-Doo: Origins, we see the titular pup sniffing around the woods before he spots Shaggy Rogers (Tanner Hagen). He lets out a surprised squeal. Shaggy immediately picks him up and snuggles him close. (because, why not?). Here, we get the first glimpse of the adorable Great Dane in the iconic teal collar, playing Scooby. And he looks every bit the good boy we always imagined Scooby to be; almost like the animators had him in mind all along.
What is the plot of Scooby-Doo: Origins?
Set at a summer camp, Scooby-Doo: Origins will follow Shaggy and Daphne Blake getting entangled in a haunting mystery. They stumble across a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder. They are joined by their pals, Velma Dinkley, a pragmatic townie, and the ever-so-handsome new kid, Fred Jones. They join forces to solve the mystery that spirals into a creepy nightmare, threatening to affect them personally. Along with their very special dog, the group will solve the terrifying case that will become the origin story of Mystery Inc.

Paul Walter Hauser is also part of the lineup in an undisclosed role. Josh Appelbaum, Scott Rosenberg, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman (via Berlanti Productions) and André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson (via Midnight Radio) serve as executive producers. Alongside directing the premiere episode, Toby Haynes also serves as an executive producer.
When will Scooby-Doo: Origins release?
The official release date of Scooby-Doo: Origins is yet to be announced. However, Netflix confirmed that it will be out in 2027. Production on the live-action adventure began in Atlanta in April 2026.
