Kota Kinabalu: The special State Assembly sitting today (Tuesday) will focus on two national energy production enactments and devolution in line with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), said Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
The State’s second Finance Minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah Secretary General said this after attending a two-hour meeting at the Chief Minister’s official Sri Gaya residence, Monday, attended by all assemblymen allied to the State Government under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
“We decided today is our off-day from politics. A politician’s job is not just politicking but, first and foremost, being responsible as the people’s elected representatives.
“We are just discussing coordination as to who will be speaking tomorrow. I’m even wearing office attire as a symbol of service to them (the people),” he said.
He also dismissed claims of a Cabinet reshuffle.
“We will surely announce it when the time is right. It’s 4pm now and the sitting is at 10am tomorrow,” he said, adding discussions on the enactments concerned the handing over of the management operations from Petronas for natural gas production in Sabah and the establishment of a State Energy Commission that would become authority.
“Tomorrow we will see the fruits of negotiations between the Federal and State which have empowered the latter.
“We hope all assemblymen present to be matured and execute their duties as representatives in supporting the cause of greater autonomy for Sabah,” he said.
On Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s visit scheduled at night, he said they did not expect anything (special announcements) from him, just thankful for taking the time off his busy schedule to visit Sabah immediately upon returning from Indonesia.
Anwar was on a two-day working visit to the country to meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo for the first time as a counterpart.
It was day two of all pro-Hajiji assemblymen convening at the residence following two failed coups that began last Thursday.
