Melaka Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh has rejected the resignation of Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh as state executive councillor, confirming he will remain in his post.
JASIN: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh has confirmed his rejection of the resignation tendered by Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh from his position as a Melaka state executive councillor.
Ab Rauf stated that following this decision, Dr Muhamad Akmal is expected to resume his duties as the chairman of the state Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Security Committee.
The Chief Minister explained that the prerogative to accept or reject a resignation lies solely with his office.
He made these remarks to reporters after visiting the Phase Two Jus Water Treatment Plant construction project.
Dr Muhamad Akmal, who is also the Jasin UMNO Division chief and Merlimau assemblyman, had announced his decision to step down from the state cabinet post in January.
His resignation was announced before 2,500 delegates during his keynote address at the 2025 UMNO Youth General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur.
The move was widely viewed at the time as a response to pressure from several DAP leaders who had challenged him to resign.
This pressure followed his own outspoken calls for UMNO to re-evaluate its position within the national Unity Government.
Dr Muhamad Akmal has held the state executive councillor post since April 2023.
