Melaka Chief Minister warns fishermen and coastal traders to stay alert as Tropical Storm Senyar brings strong winds and heavy rain to Malacca Strait
MELAKA: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh has urged fishermen and coastal traders to exercise extreme caution following Tropical Storm Senyar’s approach.
The tropical storm entered the Straits of Malacca waters at 3.30 pm today, bringing threats of continuous heavy rain and strong winds.
“I appeal to all of you, Melakans, to prioritise safety and stay away from risky areas,” he said in a Facebook post tonight.
Ab Rauf confirmed he has instructed all security and rescue agencies to maintain maximum preparedness for emergency response.
These agencies include police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force and People’s Volunteer Corps.
The Chief Minister also expressed solidarity with disaster victims in other states and neighbouring Indonesia.
Malaysian Meteorological Department director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip warned the storm could cause unstable weather until Saturday.
Residents in Selangor, Perak and parts of Pahang should remain vigilant from midnight tonight.
Other affected areas include Kedah, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.
Rough seas and strong winds are expected to persist throughout the storm period. – BERNAMA
