Customs seized 850 boxes of contraband cigarettes worth RM7.3 million from a container at West Port, Klang, declared as furniture parts

MELAKA: The Melaka Customs Department has seized smuggled cigarettes worth RM7.3 million, including duties and taxes.

The seizure occurred at West Port, Klang on October 31, involving a container declared as furniture parts.

Deputy director Bakri Abd Rahman said inspection at 12.05 pm uncovered 850 boxes containing over 9.7 million cigarette sticks.

The cigarettes had an estimated market value of RM783,520 before duties and taxes were applied.

“The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967,” he stated today.

Bakri urged the public with smuggling information to contact the Customs toll-free line 1-800-88-8855.

Information can also be reported to the nearest Customs office in any state. – Bernama
