More than 3,000 p-hailing riders in Melaka could soon pay less for motorcycle maintenance, with the state government planning to subsidise 20% to 30% of eligible repair costs.
The allocation is expected to be tabled at the Melaka state executive council meeting this week, with details on how the scheme will work expected next week.
Selected Workshops Will Offer The Subsidy
The subsidy will be available through selected motorcycle workshops across Melaka, with participating workshops to be appointed in each state constituency.
The registration process and eligibility requirements will be announced next week, along with more information involving delivery platforms such as Grab, Foodpanda and Shopee.

What The Subsidy Could Mean For Riders
The amount saved will depend on the cost of the repair and any limits set under the programme.
For example, a RM189 motorcycle service would be worth around RM38 to RM57 under the subsidy.
For someone who uses a motorcycle to make deliveries, maintenance is part of the cost of earning a living. Delivery riders put more mileage on their bikes than someone who only uses one for occasional trips, which can mean more frequent servicing and repairs. A 20% to 30% reduction could leave riders with more of their delivery income after covering the cost of keeping their bikes running.
The Initiative Came After A Day As A Delivery Rider
Melaka chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the subsidy after spending a day working as a food delivery rider around Pengkalan Balak and Masjid Tanah.
He said the experience gave him a better understanding of the challenges and routines faced by riders who depend on delivery work to support their families.
The state is also exploring ways to expand Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) contributions for p-hailing workers, although no details have been announced.
