A social media influencer is detained after a three-year-old girl in his care tested positive for THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis
MELAKA: A social media influencer has been detained to assist in an investigation after a three-year-old girl tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 39-year-old man, who is the son of the child’s caregiver, was initially remanded for seven days from April 16.
His remand has now been extended for a further five days until April 27.
The case came to light when a medical officer at Melaka Hospital received the child in a semi-conscious condition on April 14.
Tests later confirmed her urine sample was positive for THC, the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis.
The child’s mother informed the medical officer that the victim had been picked up from the caregiver’s house in Sungai Putat.
She also revealed the child had previously received respiratory assistance in the hospital’s emergency red zone on April 11.
Following the incident, a police team from the D11 criminal investigation unit arrested the suspect on the evening of April 15.
Investigations are being conducted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Checks showed the suspect has no prior criminal record and his own urine test result was negative.
The child has since recovered and has been allowed to return home.
