The Melaka government is rolling out new initiatives to transform TVET graduates into skilled workers and entrepreneurs, supported by a dedicated centre and digital portal.
MELAKA: The state government has reaffirmed its commitment to Technical and Vocational Education and Training through a three-part strategic plan.
Deputy state executive councillor for Investment, Industry and TVET Development, Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar, outlined the initiatives aimed at producing more skilled workers and successful entrepreneurs.
The plan includes the Technopreneur programme, an integrated TVET database, and the establishment of the Melaka Centre of Excellence. “Our goal is to produce TVET graduates who are not just job seekers, but capable of becoming successful entrepreneurs who also create job opportunities for others,” Khaidhirah said.
She explained the Technopreneur programme specifically trains graduates to become employers. The initiative was highlighted at the Melaka TVET Appreciation Night 2026 in Banda Hilir.
The event was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs exco Datuk Rahmad Mariman was also in attendance.
The new Melaka Centre of Excellence is designed to coordinate training for employees and employers in a structured way. It is expected to be fully operational by 2027.
Khaidhirah added that the centre is being developed entirely in collaboration with industry players. “Whatever the industry requires, we will match it accurately,” she stated.
She emphasised that the programmes are designed based on real industry needs. The state has also launched an official TVET portal at www.tvetmelaka.com as a one-stop information centre.
The portal provides details on programmes, training, trainee intake, and participation opportunities. It also allows industry players to review talent development channels and share input.
At the same event, the Melaka TVET Council allocated RM150,000 to 30 higher education institutions in the state. Each institution received RM5,000 to strengthen TVET training and development programmes.
