A senior Melaka medical officer is remanded for five days over alleged abuse of power in a RM1.5 million knee implant supply deal.
MELAKA: A senior medical officer at a hospital here has been remanded for five days to assist investigations into an alleged abuse of power involving the supply of knee implants worth about RM1.5 million.
Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman today granted a five-day remand order until Sept 12 against the suspect, who is in his 50s, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court here.
A source said the suspect was arrested at about 3.30 pm yesterday when he turned up at the Melaka MACC office to have his statement recorded.
“The suspect, who is a civil servant, is believed to have committed the offence between 2024 and 2026. He is also alleged to have an interest in the company supplying the knee implants, which is owned by one of his family members,” she said.
Meanwhile, Melaka MACC director Datuk Adi Supian Shafie, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
