MELAKA, Oct 31 — The nomination process for the 16th Melaka state election has been completed after all 28 nomination centres across the state closed at 10 am this morning.

An hour has been allocated for the submission of nomination forms which began at 9 am, before the Returning Officer announced the closure of the process at the respective nomination centres.

The focus is now on the official declaration of the list of candidates eligible to contest as well as the number of candidates in each State Legislative Assembly seat.

With the end of the nomination process, the 14-day Melaka polls campaign begins as set by the Election Commission (EC), which is on until 11.59 pm on November 13.

A Bernama survey at several nomination centres since early this morning found loyal supporters accompanying their respective party candidates to the nomination locations in a controlled manner.

The EC has set November 10 as the date for early voting while November 14 is polling day.

A total of 687,697 voters are eligible to exercise their responsibilities in this election, consisting of 675,166 ordinary voters, 9,769 military personnel and their spouses and 2,762 police personnel.
