PH is confident economic strength and stability will help in the Melaka polls. Ramanan urges better grassroots outreach as Ginie Lim eyes Machap Jaya.
ALOR GAJAH: Pakatan Harapan (PH) is confident that the country’s improving economic conditions and current political stability could give the coalition an advantage in the 16th Melaka State Election on Nov 14.
PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the MADANI Government’s achievements over nearly four years in power, including the strengthening of the ringgit and inflow of foreign investments, must be effectively communicated to the people throughout the campaign period.
Speaking to the media at the Machap Jaya Nomination Centre at the JAPERUN Machap Jaya Complex in Bukit Bulat here today, he said the election outcome remained open and would depend on the people’s acceptance of the respective coalitions’ proposals and efforts.
Ramanan, who is also Human Resources Minister, said PH candidates needed to meet voters on the ground and explain the government’s achievements, initiatives and plans for implementation in their interests.
“The information we have, our achievements and what we have implemented must reach the people. Otherwise, they will not know what is being done.
“Therefore, the delivery of messages and information to the people at the grassroots level needs to be improved,” he said.
Meanwhile, PKR Wanita chief Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said PH’s candidate for Machap Jaya, Datuk Ginie Lim Siew Lin of PKR, had extensive political experience and was no stranger to voters in Melaka.
She said Lim’s experience, having previously won the seat and served as Melaka’s Women, Family Development, Welfare and Orang Asli Affairs executive councillor, gave her an advantage in terms of experience and familiarity among the local community.
Fadhlina said Machap Jaya was among the seats with significant potential for PH to win, although it was expected to face a stiff challenge from incumbent Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem (BN-MCA).
“I think this is an evenly matched contest, as both sides are relying on their respective track records, achievements and administrative service. This is a very good opportunity for PH, given the current situation which offers several advantages, including economic stability and the budget,” said Fadhlina, who is also Education Minister.
She also commended PKR’s decision to field three women candidates in this Melaka state election.
Earlier, Ramanan and Fadhlina, together with PKR vice-president performing the duties of deputy president and PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who is also Home Minister, and PKR Central Leadership Council member Dr Maszlee Malik, accompanied Lim to the Machap Jaya nomination centre.
The Machap Jaya State seat will see a three-cornered contest involving Lim, Ngwe and B. Prasanth Kumar, who is representing Parti Bersama Malaysia (BERSAMA).
The Election Commission has set Nov 14 as polling day for the Melaka state election, while early voting will be held on Nov 10.
