THE Melaka state election will be held this year following the scheduled end of the current state administration’s term, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh confirmed on Thursday

Ab Rauf said the term of the Melaka government is due to conclude this year, necessitating the dissolution of the state legislative assembly to allow for the state polls.

“As the term of the Melaka state government ends this year, the state election will be held this year,” he told reporters after attending a special meeting of the UMNO Supreme Council at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur last night.

The confirmation puts an end to speculation over the timing of the next Melaka state election, which will be the first since the last polls were held on Nov 20, 2021.

Once the Melaka State Legislative Assembly is dissolved, the Election Commission is expected to announce the nomination date and polling day in accordance with electoral procedures. - January 16, 2026
