POLICE have denied allegations of bullying involving a male student who fell from the roof of a bicycle garage at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Batu Berendam in Melaka on Tuesday.
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, said police received a report regarding the incident at about 12.40 pm during a class change time.
According to him, initial investigations found that the victim, a Year Five student, is believed to have thrown another student's shoe until it got stuck on the roof of the bicycle garage.
He said the male student then tried to retrieve his friend's shoe by climbing the roof.
"When the victim tried to climb back up to the first floor of the school building, the part of the roof he stepped on broke.
"The victim fell and sustained an injury to his right leg," he said in a statement today.
He said the victim was given initial emergency aid by the school before being sent to the Melaka Hospital and later transferred to the Putra Specialist Hospital, Melaka, for further treatment.
"The student is currently reported to be in stable condition and confirmed to have suffered a minor fracture to his right ankle," he said.
He added that further investigation conducted by investigating officers together with the criminal investigation team, forensics and witnesses found that the incident occurred as a result of his own accident.
"The victim also confirmed that there was no element of bullying, abuse or neglect before or during the incident," he said.
The police advised the public not to speculate or spread false information regarding the incident, as it could cause public concern and disrupt the investigation.
The case is being investigated under a Police Inquiry Paper (KEP).
Earlier, a picture went viral on WhatsApp showing a Ministry of Health Malaysia ambulance at the school, along with a statement from a Year 5 student who fell from the corridor.
Melaka State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs EXCO, Datuk Rahmad Mariman, said he was informed that the incident was caused by the student's own actions and not by other factors.
The student involved is said to have taken his friend's school shoes before throwing them onto the roof. – May 8, 2026
