Kota Kinabalu: Membakut will be the sixth destination in the country for the Kita Madani Carnival organised by the Malaysian Information Department (Japen).

It was earlier held in Melaka, Kelantan, Selangor and Labuan while Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya jointly hosted it.

Japen Sabah Director Jainisah Mohd Noor said the Sabah Kita Madani Carnival will take place at the Membakut Open Hall for three days starting Aug 8.

“This carnival is one of Japen initiatives to carry out field trips and engagement sessions with the local community in a relaxed atmosphere.

According to Jainisah, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, also the Sabah Exco for Religion and Education, will officiate the carnival launch on Aug 10, 2024.

She said this to the media after paying a courtesy call on Dr Mohd Ariffin at his Ministry in Wisma Bandaraya, here, Thursday.

Also in the delegation were Membakut District Officer Ibrahim Terki; JaPen Sabah Deputy Director Supian Musa and Principal Assistant Director of Communication and Community Development Services Peter Tong Ah Pin.

Jainisah also said that the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) programme in Sabah will be launched by the Chief Minister simultaneously with the launch of the State-level Hari Kebangsaan Hari Malaysia (HKHM) 2024 at the Kota Kinabalu City Hall compound here on Aug 1.

“For 20 days, the KMJG convoy will travel throughout Sabah to invite the local community to rekindle the national month by flying the Jalur Gemilang as a sign of love for the country.

“More than 50 checkpoints will be passed and various activities will be held and some government agencies will also open booths to make it easier for the public to get government information,” she added.

The KMJG convoy was first implemented by Japen in 2002 with the mission of stirring up the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians through the flying Jalur Gemilang campaign.
