MANILA, Philippines — Environmental group Ecowaste Coalition called on men to avoid using unauthorized sexual enhancement products that could result in “serious health products and hospitalization.”

In a statement on Friday, EcoWaste said the products, often sold by online dealers, sidewalk vendors, and Chinese drug stores, claim to “improve sexual drive and performance but may contain restricted substances, which, if taken without a doctor’s advice, may have serious side effects.”

EcoWaste also gathered information from international sources that included Health Canada, the United States Food and Drug Administration and even the Philippine FDA, which cited that unregistered male dietary supplements, male energy pills, male sexual stimulants, and erectile dysfunction (ED) treatments contain hidden prescription drugs that include sildenafil and tadalafil, that are used to treat erectile dysfunction.

The group also cited recent government public safety warning on so-called love scams ahead of Valentine’s Day on Saturday.
