JBPM rescued a 27-year-old lorry driver trapped after a three-vehicle collision blocked all northbound lanes past Menora Tunnel in Ipoh.
IPOH: A man was injured after becoming trapped in the driver’s seat of a lorry following a three-lorry collision at KM257.2 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound, past the Menora Tunnel, this morning.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 8.58 am before deploying a fire engine and seven personnel from the Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.
“The accident involved three lorries, namely a Hino bonded lorry carrying mixed cargo, an Isuzu bonded lorry transporting beverages and a Volvo trailer carrying frozen goods.
“A 27-year-old man was trapped in the driver’s seat of the Hino lorry when emergency responders arrived. The accident also blocked all northbound lanes, causing traffic congestion,” he said in a statement today.
Sabarodzi said the other two drivers, aged 59 and 33, from the Isuzu and Volvo lorries respectively, managed to get out of their vehicles unaided and were uninjured when the firemen arrived.
He said the Hino lorry driver, who sustained minor injuries to his legs, was handed over to Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel for further treatment, while the operation ended at 10.54 am.
Meanwhile, Kuala Kangsar police chief ACP Heisham confirmed the accident when contacted, saying police were continuing investigations at the scene.
The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), in a post on X, said the accident had blocked all northbound lanes and caused a seven-kilometre traffic jam this morning.
LLM said its patrol teams, Incident Support Services (ISS), JBPM and Emergency Medical Patrol Vehicle (EMPV) were at the scene.
It added that a mandatory exit at Ipoh South had been activated to manage traffic flow following the accident.
