KUALA PENYU: The passenger boat fare between Menumbok and Labuan has been reverted to its original rate of RM9, effective today, following discussions between the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), relevant agencies, and the Menumbok Speedboat Operators Association.
It's Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali confirmed the RM12 fare, which included a fuel surcharge implemented on Nov 1, has now been cancelled.
"Eligible boat operators can begin applying for RON95 petrol subsidies through the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS) starting Nov 13.
"As an interim measure, operators may also claim reimbursement for additional fuel costs through the same system, effective immediately," he said in a statement.
He said claims for the period between Sept 30 and Oct 31, when fares were not raised but operators faced higher fuel expenses, will also be considered with proof of purchase.
Armizan thanked the Menumbok Speedboat Operators Association and former Kuala Penyu assemblyman Datuk Limus Jury for assisting in resolving the issue and balancing the interests of both passengers and operators.
