MANILA Electric Co. (Meralco) energy sales in the first nine months of 2026 increased to an estimated 41,054 gigawatt-hours (GWh) from 40,719 GWh recorded in the same period in 2025, driven by stronger energization efforts.
“Our 2026 consolidated energy sales in the first nine months reached 41,054 GWh,” Meralco Senior Vice President Charina Padua said in a message on Saturday, noting that contributions from new service connections more than helped offset softer organic electricity demand during the period.
Residential energy sales in the first three quarters grew to 14,731 GWh from 14,520 GWh a year earlier, she said, thanks to sustained energization efforts, while commercial energy sales increased to 15,393 GWh from 15,237 GWh on the continued expansion of retail and restaurant establishments.
Industrial energy sales were slightly lower, however, slipping to 10,819 GWh in January-September from 10,852 GWh a year earlier as gains from the semiconductor sector were largely offset by softer demand from the steel and plastics industries.
Meralco shares on Friday declined by P21.40, or 4.86 percent, to P418.60 apiece.
