MANILA Electric Co. (Meralco) is awaiting an Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) decision regarding a combined refund of a little over P9 billion for consumers because of over-recoveries.
"Aside from the order of the ERC to hasten the distribution of the remaining refunds to electricity consumers for the period of July 2022 to December 2024, there are two pending applications for actual weighted average tariff for the whole year of 2025 for a total amount close to nine billion pesos for refunds," Meralco Senior Vice President Jose Ronald Valles said late on Monday.
Meralco has filed separate petitions proposing refunds of P4,689,435,330 for January-June 2025 and P4,321,065,606 for July-December 2025.
The ERC last ordered Meralco to hasten the refund of a total of P14,173,358,349.09, equivalent to P0.2511 per kilowatt-hour, in over-recoveries, to be completed within a year. ED PAOLO SALTING
