MANILA, Philippines — Manila Electric Company (Meralco) customers are expected to receive more refunds as the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Wednesday ordered the power distributor to refund the remaining P14.172 billion at the soonest possible time.
In a decision released on the same day, the ERC said that Meralco must refund P14,173,358,349.09, or equivalent of P0.2511 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), in over-recoveries back to its customers starting in May and that it must be done within a year.
The ERC directive follows the completion of Meralco’s regulatory "true-up" process for the distribution charges implemented from July 2022 to December 2024 when the power firm was asked in 2025 to refund P19,958,945,951, or an equivalent of P0.1189 per kWh, to customers and which should be finished in 36 months.
