
MERALCO on Friday announced a schedule of rotational brownouts in Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, and Metro Manila, while the yellow and red alerts in the Luzon grid have been extended.
Yellow alerts mean power reserves are low, while red alerts indicate insufficient supply which can lead to rotational brownouts.
As of May 15, Luzon was put on yellow alert between 1 and 2 p.m., and between 11 p.m. and 11:59 p.m., and on red alert between 2 and 11 p.m., said the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) due to the tripping of Unit 1 of the GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD 1) coal-fired power plant in Mariveles, Bataan, which led to a loss of 668 MW from the grid.
Meralco said that it may implement manual load dropping (MLD) or rotating brownouts in three time periods in its franchise areas between 3:01 and 7:00 p.m.
Bulacan: Some areas in Balagtas, Baliuag City, Bocaue, Marilao, Pulilan, San Idelfonso, San Jose Del Monte City, and Santa Maria;
Cavite: Parts of Alfonso, Amadeo, Bacoor City, Dasmariñas City, General Emilio Aguinaldo, General Trias City, Imus City, Indang, Kawit, Magallanes, Maragondon, Noveleta, Silang, Tagaytay City, Ternate, and Trece Martires City;
Laguna: Some portions of Cabuyao City, Calamba City, Calauan, Los Baños, Luisiana, Majayjay, Sta Cruz, and Sta. Rosa City;
Quezon: Some sections of Lucban, Sampaloc, and Tayabas City;
Several areas in all cities in Metro Manila except Valenzuela, and Pateros; and some locations in Angono, Antipolo City, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, Morong, Rodriguez (Montalban), San Mateo, Taytay, and Teresa in Rizal;
Between 4:01 and 8:00 p.m., brownouts will hit some locations in Makati City; and Wack-Wack Greenhills East in Mandaluyong;
Also between 5:01 and 9:00 p.m. in some parts of Alfonso, Dasmariñas City, General Emilio Aguinaldo, General Trias City, Maragondon, Tagaytay City, and Trece Martires City in Cavite; and some locations in Biñan City, Laguna;
Some places in Caloocan, Makati, Malabon, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon and Taguig in Metro Manila;
And some areas in Angono, Antipolo City, Binangonan, Cainta, and Taytay.
