Here’s a lowdown on the recently concluded Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Kuala Lumpur.

The rain did not stop the glamour of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Kuala Lumpur (MBFWKL) from happening. MBFWKL took place on the 16th-18th of August at The Yard, Sentul Depot. There were dazzling arrays of collections being showcased by both the established and emerging designers, aligning with the theme ‘Re:Imagine’ to promote fashion sustainability and innovation. Some of the renowned names include Alice Chang of A-Jane and NOIZ, Celest Thoi, Brian Khoo, Aaron Yong and Dickson Lim.

However, emerging brands such as EL by Ellie Lim and DOUBLEBACK by Will Lim stole the limelight on Day 1, parading the newest collections on the runway. With over a decade of experience in the industry, designer Ellie Lim’s latest collection, debuted under her label EL, was a stunning showcase of her artistry. Her designs, known for their contemporary unisex chic, captivated the audience with their exquisite textures and sustainable fabrics. This collection painted a vivid portrait of Ellie Lim’s unique vision and talent.

DOUBLEBACK on the other hand is renowned for putting a twist to traditional fashion norms, mixing casual streetwear styles with high-quality elements. The collections showcased a captivating array of designs that left audiences in awe. The models confidently strutted down the runway, embodying the brand’s vision of individuality and style. Each outfit was a testament to DOUBLEBACK’s commitment to both quality and creativity, showcasing the transformative power of fashion.

The industry’s veterans like Justin Yap and Celest Thoi also came out to play this year. Justin brought out his signature flair with a repertoire of bold and jewel-tone fabrics, dazzled with gold hardware, beads and rhinestones. Of course, he served a slice of sex appeal in each of his designs on top of a strong sartorial tailoring to his menswear looks. Celest on the other hand celebrated 20 years in fashion with an immaculate show of pristine white silhouettes. She brought forth a play on hard and soft, structured and light while mixing plumes and pleats with chiffons and lace.

The final day witnessed the stunning show by young and talented Malaysian designer Dickson Lim, known for his exceptional tailoring in menswear and womenswear. Ending the day was Brian Khoo who made his comeback after a three-year hiatus. Distinguished celebrities like Scha Alyahya, Amelia Henderson, Yaya Zahir and Eyka Farhana also attended his show along other well known figures such as Francisca Luhong, Alexis SueAnn, Serena Lee and Lesley Cheam.
