Mercedes-Benz was named the best-selling car brand in Singapore in 2022, overtaking Toyota and BMW for the first time in several years. In fact, this is believed to be the first time that the German luxury car maker clinched the top sales spot in the country.
As reported by The Straits Times, Toyota came in the second spot while BMW, Hyundai and Mazda make up the top 5. American electric vehicle brand Tesla made the top 10 list for the first time by coming in at 6th. Other car manufacturers that made it to the top 10 include Nissan, Kia, Audi and Honda.
However, given the country’s small size and population and its exorbitant car prices, a closer look at the top 10 statistics show that the overall number of cars registered by each brand is not that much compared to say, Malaysia. For example, while Mercedes-Benz was crowned as the best-selling car in Singapore last year, the number of units registered as per the country’s Land Transport Authority was only 4,336.

Nevertheless, Mercedes-Benz making it to the top of the Singapore best-selling car list is still impressive. More so, when you consider that the most saleable models cost in excess of SGD250,000 or approximately RM811,832.
