
SANDAKAN: Broken thermometer resulted in mercury spill in the Science Laboratory room of SMK Gum-Gum, Batu 16, here, Thursday.
The Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre received a call regarding the incident at about 11.42am via the Mers 999 line and immediately sent seven personnel from the Fire and Rescue Station to a location 21km away along with a machine and EMRS.
The operation was led by Operations Commander, Alan Ayuh, and hazardous materials (Hazmat) expert, Mohd Hannis Moktar.
The Fire and Rescue personnel cleaned up the spilled mercury using sulphur powder.
