Kuala Lumpur witnessed the grand opening of the Menara Merdeka 118, a new architectural marvel in Malaysia, after nearly a decade of construction.

Crowned as the second tallest building in the world after the Burj Khalifa, the inauguration was graced by the presence of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Standing at a majestic height of 678.9 meters, the tower’s design symbolically echoes the historic image of Almarhum Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj proclaiming ‘Merdeka’ 64 years ago.

The highlight of the event was the spectacular light show at 10.15 pm, accompanied by the echoing cry of ‘Merdeka’ from Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, a moment captured and shared live by many on social media platforms like TikTok.

The ceremony also marked the opening of the Masjid Al-Sultan Abdullah, a facility within the tower, which will be accessible to the public from Friday.
