Meru police station introduces a bell system for entry after midnight, enhancing security following a brawl, with additional CCTV and patrol measures.
KLANG: The Meru police station has implemented a bell system to control public entry after midnight as a new security measure. This follows a brawl at the station on March 2.
North Klang district police chief ACP S. Vijaya Rao said the step strengthens station security and ensures the safety of personnel and the public. He noted many stations nationwide operate in shoplots and require more effective security control.
“Among the measures taken include closing the main door after midnight,” Vijaya said at a press conference. “The public can only enter after pressing the bell provided outside the premises.”
He explained station operations continue as usual, with the bell assisting those needing to conduct business when the door is closed. Other safety measures include installing CCTV cameras inside and outside the station.
Patrol officers are also assigned to surrounding areas for continuous monitoring. Vijaya said at least two personnel will be on duty nightly, with one receiving reports and the other on standby.
The same approach has long been practiced at other North Klang stations like Bandar Baru Klang and Bukit Raja. Vijaya said the Meru brawl was sudden and believed due to a misunderstanding between two groups.
“I hope the public respects the police station as a security institution,” he said. “If you are not satisfied, resolve matters outside and channel it through a report.”
Police arrested eight individuals from two groups following the incident. Three have been charged, while the others are witnesses.
The case involves offences including trespassing, injuring a witness, and carrying a weapon. It is currently in trial at the Klang Magistrate’s Court.
