MET Malaysia: Earthquake Hits Southern Philippines, No Tsunami Threat to Malaysia So Far

Mindanao, Southern Philippines, has been experiencing an earthquake since last night.

According to the assessment of the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia), a powerful earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Ritcher scale struck Southern Philippines at 10:37pm on the night of 2 December 2023.

According to BERNAMA, the offshore earthquake, measuring 7.5 in magnitude, has tragically claimed one life and left two others injured. A woman from Tagum City in Davao del Norte province was killed when a wall of her house collapsed. Her husband and child were both injured.

Subsequently, moderate aftershocks persisted in the same region until 11:28 am today (3 December 2023).

According to MET Malaysia’s assessment, there’s no tsunami threat to Malaysia, as of the time of writing.
