Met Office confirms exactly how dry July was – as multiple records are smashed

• Southern England recorded its driest month ever in July, with just 1.9mm of rain, narrowly beating a record from February 1891.
• July was the driest for both England and Wales since records began in 1836, with England receiving only 6.5mm of rain and Wales 9.3mm, significantly below their long-term averages.
• The UK as a whole experienced its third driest July, with 28.9mm of rain, marking the lowest figure for the month since 1868.
• Both England and Wales also recorded their sunniest July since data began in 1910, with England logging 305.6 hours and Wales 308.0 hours of sunshine.
• Wales equalled its record for the highest mean temperature in July at 17.8C, while England saw its second warmest July on record with a mean temperature of 19.2C.
