- The UK has provisionally experienced its hottest summer since records began in 1884, with a mean average temperature of 16.5C across June, July and August.
- The Met Office recorded 40 days of temperatures above 30C, breaking the previous record of 34 days.
- This summer, the mean average temperature was 18.2C for England, 16.9C for Wales, 13.8C for Scotland, and 15.4C for Northern Ireland.
- Kew Gardens recorded the summer's peak temperature of 38.1C on 13 August, with temperatures reaching 37C or higher on three separate days this year.
- Dr Amy Doherty, who leads the national climate information centre at the Met Office, said: “These records are now breaking with increasing frequency, reflecting the influence of human-induced climate change on the temperatures we’re experiencing in the UK.”
