- Lawyers representing the family of Chris Kaba have accused the Metropolitan Police of actively resisting a full inquest into his fatal shooting by an officer in 2022.
- Kaba, 24, died in September 2022 after being shot in the head by police marksman Sgt Martyn Blake following a vehicle pursuit in Streatham, south-east London.
- Sgt Blake was acquitted of murder at the Old Bailey in October 2024 after maintaining that his use of lethal force was lawful, proportionate and necessary.
- During a pre-inquest review at Southwark Coroner's Court, the Kaba family's barrister argued that the criminal trial was not a substitute for an inquest to establish facts and learn lessons.
- Senior coroner Dr Julian Morris will decide whether to resume the full inquest into Kaba's death, which had been adjourned since October 2022.
