- The Independent Office for Police Conduct has directed the Metropolitan Police's Directorate of Professional Standards to investigate the force's handling of the arrest and treatment of 44-year-old Nicholas Brandram.
- Mr Brandram, a former army captain and banker, was found dead at his home on 15 September following months under police investigation regarding the 2017 Putney pusher incident.
- Having been arrested in June on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm and later released under investigation in September, Mr Brandram remained under active probe despite his family stating there was no evidence placing him at the scene.
- His family strongly insists on his innocence and believes he took his own life due to the immense distress, anxiety, and public humiliation caused by his arrest, home search, and subsequent media identification.
- The IOPC has specified that the internal investigation must evaluate the necessity and proportionality of the arrest, police interactions with the media, and welfare measures taken for Mr Brandram, with final findings subject to independent review.
