MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm, heavy rain warning in seven states

HEAVY rain in several states, especially Pahang and Selangor, is expected to continue this evening.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a warning of heavy rain followed by thunderstorms and strong winds.

Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in Pahang involving Jerantut, Bentong, Kuantan and Pekan.

In Selangor, involving the Gombak, Kuala Langat and Hulu Langat areas as well as around Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan.

The same warning is also expected to occur in Borneo for several areas in Sarawak involving Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong); Sibu (Sibu and Selangau); Mukah; Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu); Miri (Miri and Marudi) and Limbang.

Meanwhile, Sabah involves the Interior (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan); West Coast; Tawau (Kunak, Semporna and Lahad Datu); Sandakan (Tongod, Kinabatangan and Sandakan); Kudat (Kota Marudu) and Labuan.

According to MetMalaysia, the warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour which are expected to occur for more than or almost an hour. – December 20, 2025
