MERALCO PowerGen Corp. (MGen) on Monday said that the generation capacity of its MTerra Solar project had risen to 250 megawatts (MW) of reliable and clean energy.

MGen, the generation arm of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), said MTerra had reached the milestone through the continued support of the Department of Energy and National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.

“Reaching this milestone reflects the strong execution, collaboration, and dedication of our teams and partners,” Terra Solar Philippines Inc. President and CEO Dennis Jordan said.

“More importantly, it underscores the role of projects like MTerra Solar in helping secure the country’s energy future at a time when reliability and affordability are under increasing pressure,” he added.

MGen said Terra Solar had also energized the first tranche of a battery energy storage system, which has allowed the plant to deliver up to 450 megawatt-hours of energy to the grid at night.

The facility will undergo a series of comprehensive activities in the coming weeks to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable integration of battery storage with the solar facility, it added.

At full capacity, the MTerra Solar project is expected to generate power of up to 3,500 megawatts-peak.

Meralco shares on Monday went up by P0.50 to close at P604.00 apiece.
