
MERALCO PowerGen Corp. (MGen) on Wednesday said that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with PLDT Inc.’s VITRO REIT Inc. for the joint feasibility study and development of sustainable power-enabled digital infrastructure.
MGen and VITRO REIT will conduct joint technical and commercial studies to assess potential sites, power generation capacity, renewable energy resources, connectivity requirements, data center specifications and commercial structures.“By bringing together our respective capabilities, we can explore solutions on how reliable, cost-competitive and sustainable power can be integrated into the development of digital infrastructure,” MGen President and CEO Emmanuel Rubio said.VITRO REIT President and CEO Victor Genuino said the collaboration also provides an opportunity to create a more integrated proposition for prospective data center locators.“We are committed to working closely with the energy sector, as improving the cost and reliability of power is one of the key objectives of this collaboration, and energy being a decisive factor in attracting hyperscale and AI (artificial intelligence) investments to the country,” he added.MGen said it would help identify potential sites for data center developments integrated with power generation facilities, as well as evaluate potential power supply arrangements.VITRO REIT will conduct data center design and site studies, connectivity planning, and engage with prospective hyperscalers and locators.On Wednesday, Meralco’s share price fell by 60 centavos to close at P416.60 each while that of PLDT rose by P5.00 to close at P1.080.00 apiece.
