The latest Malaysian additions form part of a global selection featuring more than 470 new hotels across 79 destinations following months of anonymous visits by Michelin Guide inspectors.

The 2026 edition introduces Michelin Keys in 10 destinations for the first time, while more than 80 hotels receive promotions within existing selections.

The global hotel selection now spans more than 9,400 properties, including 2,832 hotels awarded Michelin Keys. More than 2,200 hotels have been added to the selection since the first Michelin Key announcement in October 2025.

Of the 2,832 Key hotels, 155 hold Three Keys, 657 hold Two Keys and 2,020 hold One Key.

Michelin Guide international director Gwendal Poullennec said the continued expansion reflects momentum across the hospitality sector, particularly as independent and boutique properties introduce new approaches to the guest experience. He described the latest selection as one shaped by more immersive, personalised and experiential stays, alongside investment from major international hotel groups.

Asia shines as Michelin Key selection

Asia and Europe record some of the largest numbers of new additions in 2026, with notable growth across destinations including China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Saudi Arabia.

The Michelin Key also reaches Armenia, Benin, Botswana, Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein, Mongolia, Myanmar, Rwanda, Slovakia and Zimbabwe for the first time.

Europe now has 1,338 Michelin Key hotels across more than 35 destinations, while Asia and the Middle East account for 600 Key hotels.

The Michelin Guide’s highest hotel distinction welcomes 18 new Three-Key properties in 2026, including six in Asia.

Soneva Secret in the Maldives is the only new Three-Key hotel this year in Asia, while Shinta Mani Wild in Cambodia joins the selection with a new Two-Key distinction. In Beijing, Yanbai Villa is a new One-Key addition.

What travellers are looking for

Travellers are increasingly spending longer periods in fewer places, with less crowded and more accessible destinations gaining attention. The distinction between business and leisure travel is also becoming less defined, with guests moving between different travel styles, budgets and experiences.

Luxury is similarly taking on new forms, from outdoor stays and private villas to residential-style hospitality, with greater emphasis on privacy, authenticity and connection to place.

Wellness is expanding beyond traditional spa offerings, with hotels placing greater focus on fitness and broader physical and mental wellbeing. Design also continues to play a prominent role, with visually distinctive interiors attracting attention while service, atmosphere and sense of place remain central to the overall stay.

Another emerging area is luxury travel by sea, with hotel groups introducing yacht-based concepts that bring elements of traditional luxury hospitality onto the water. Together, the 2026 selection reflects a hotel industry continuing to broaden its approach to where, how and why people travel.
