Nothing, absolutely nothing, can stop Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh and her roll at this point. Just yesterday it was announced that she had become the first Asian to win the Best Actress award at the National Board of Review Awards.
Now, she has become the first Malaysian to win a Golden Globe, for actress in a musical or comedy motion picture for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
According to a report by BBC, she had contended against Lesley Manville, Margot Robbie, Anya Taylor-Joy and Emma Thompson for the award.
“I remember when I first came to Hollywood. It was a dream come true until I got here, because, look at this face. I came here and was told, ‘You are a minority’,”
“This is also for all the shoulders that I have (stood) on, all who came before me who look like me, and all who are going on this journey with me forward,” she shared during her acceptance speech.
Her win was such a special moment for Asians, especially Malaysians, that even the Malaysian Ministry of Communication and Digital celebrated her success.
“Congratulations Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh for winning Best Actress at the 80th Golden Globe Awards! The first Malaysian to receive this prestigious award. Certainly an honour for the country,” YB Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Digital shared.
Kudos, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh and keep kicking ass out there!
