KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Malaysian-born actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh on her Golden Globes win for the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once, urging local talent to take inspiration from the industry veteran.
The actress, who hails from Perak, won her first Golden Globe award since her acting career started 40 years ago.
“I would like to congratulate our very own cultural figure and artist Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh for her extraordinary achievement in the film industry where she won an award for best actress in a musical/comedy,” said Anwar on Facebook.
He said her achievements have made Malaysia and movie fans immensely proud.
“I hope that Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh’s achievements will inspire our very own aspiring artists to create, produce and generate more talents and creativity.
“I will watch her movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once, sometime in the near future,” Anwar added.
Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh is the second Asian actor to ever win an award for best actress in a motion picture comedy or musical after Awkwafina, who won the same award for The Farewell in 2020.
“It’s been an amazing journey and an incredible fight to be here today, but I think it’s been worth it,” Yeoh had said at the awards ceremony.
She branded Everything Everywhere All At Once as the best gift, and also thanked her fellow castmates Ke Huay Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Stephanie Hsu.
“I’ve been in the business for 40 years, and finally I get to be number one on the call sheet, if you believe in yourself and have passion in what you do, you don’t give up. – The Vibes, January 13, 2023.
