With Mid-Autumn Festival 2025 fast approaching, explore and bookmark our curated guide to the best mooncakes in KL and Selangor—and stay tuned for the latest updates.
As the Mid-Autumn Festival 2025 approaches on 6 October, the city once again begins to fill with lanterns, festive gatherings, and of course, mooncakes. Often referred to as the Mooncake Festival, this annual celebration is the second most significant traditional Chinese festival after Chinese New Year. Rooted in centuries of history, it symbolises togetherness, prosperity, and gratitude, with families reuniting under the glow of the full moon to share stories, laughter, and food.
At the heart of it all is the humble mooncake. A round pastry that has evolved far beyond its simple origins. Traditionally filled with white lotus paste, salted egg yolk, or red bean, these delicacies embody the essence of festivity and reunion.
Yet, as with many culinary traditions, modern creativity has pushed the mooncake into bold and exciting territory. In recent years, chefs and patissiers across KL and PJ have taken the art of mooncake-making to new heights. From durian and chocolate-infused creations to matcha, champagne, truffle and even alcohol-laced innovations, the variety on offer is as indulgent as it is surprising.
But mooncakes today are more than just seasonal treats, they make perfect gifts too. Hotels and restaurants in KL and PJ are not only crafting inventive flavours but also presenting them in exquisitely designed boxes and limited-edition packaging that double up as memorable keepsakes. These curated sets are perfect for gifting whether to family, friends, or corporate partners, and are a reflection of the thought associated with the festival.
In the spirit of celebrating tradition while embracing innovation, we’ve put together a carefully curated guide to the best mooncakes you can find across KL and PJ this year. From timeless classics to avant-garde flavour combinations, these are the festive highlights worth savouring and sharing this Mid-Autumn Festival 2025.
