JAKARTA - KP2MI said 216,648 overseas job vacancies were still available as of Sept. 6, accounting for 74.69% of 290,058 active openings.
In a Sept. 15 release, Indonesia’s migrant worker protection ministry said 73,410 vacancies, or 25.31% of the total recorded in its SIP2MI system, had been applied for.
The ministry listed domestic work, healthcare and manufacturing among the main areas of demand, with Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Türkiye among the destinations.
Migrant Worker Protection Minister Mukhtarudin disclosed the figures during a meeting with Philippine Ambassador Christopher B. Montero at the ministry’s Jakarta office.
He said the government is seeking to shift migrant-worker placement from an orientation toward lower-skilled workers to medium- and higher-skilled workers.
Separate SISKOP2MI data cited by the ministry showed 252,240 migrant-worker placement services from January through Sept. 6. Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore were the leading destinations in that tally.
The placement-services figure is a different measure from the 290,058 active vacancies in the SIP2MI snapshot.
The government is also trying to connect training more closely with overseas demand through its SMK Go Global programme. KP2MI has said recruitment should be tied to confirmed vacancies in its placement system, with technical, language and certification training aimed at medium- and higher-skilled occupations.
In a Sept. 9 programme update, Deputy Minister Christina Aryani said training should be linked directly to labour-market demand.
“Training must truly be based on labour-market needs so graduates have clear placement opportunities,” she said.
