- Miley Cyrus posted a tribute to her godmother, Dolly Parton, a day after it was announced that the country music icon died after a brief illness with cancer at age 80.

- “What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis. I will always love her and want to make her proud.”

- Parton opened up about her close relationship with goddaughter Miley Cyrus during an interview on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show in November 2023. Parton revealed she became Cyrus's godmother after building a close friendship with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, while touring together in 1992.
