Kota Kinabalu: Deputy Chief Minister III cum Public Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya denied implying that tourists were the reason for the water shortage in Sembulan and Tanjung Aru recently.

“I was explaining that increased population leads to higher water demand. We actually welcome tourists to Sabah,” he said.

Shahelmey reiterated the State Water Department’s commitment to resolving water issues, particularly focusing on water pressure management.

“When demand is high, supply can be constrained. Our engineers are working on balancing water pressure across different areas, which is a complex process due to fluid mechanics,” he said.
