Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, has revealed that the Palestinian people who were brought to Malaysia for medical treatment did not want to leave their homeland, and would rather die in their own country.
According to a report by Berita Harian, he said that Malaysia has discussed with the leaders of Palestine about transporting their people to Malaysia as the capacity of hospital treatment facilities in Egypt is full.
“They didn’t want to leave. They are willing to die in their own homeland. For them, if they were to die, they want to die in their own country,”
“I spoke with the Palestinian leaders (over the matter of bringing their people to Malaysia), and they (initially) said that the Palestinian people did not want to leave, not even to Jordan (a country bordering theirs),” he explained.
Due to this, as soon as they complete their medical treatment in Malaysia, the group of Palestinians will be sent back.
“We promised them, we brought them here to provide some help and we (promised them that we) will send them back. As an international community and a concerned country, we have hearts and feelings,”
“Don’t worry about (the allegations of) certain states, we will send them back,” he added.
This comes after a Sarawakian NGO strictly told the Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, not to send any Palestinian refugees to their state as they want to focus on helping the underprivileged within their own communities.
