Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, on Thursday met several deputations from Jammu division and reviewed issues concerning drinking water supply, forest rights, tribal welfare, employment and public infrastructure.
During the interaction, Rana said the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah remains committed to addressing the aspirations of every section of society. He described public outreach programmes as an important bridge between the administration and the people.
The delegations highlighted irregular and inadequate drinking water supply in rural and semi-urban areas and raised concerns over defunct handpumps at several locations.
The Minister directed Jal Shakti Department officials to conduct field assessments and ensure uninterrupted supply of potable water on priority.
Issues relating to water scarcity for agriculture and livestock were also raised, with delegations seeking speedy completion of pending irrigation and lift-water schemes.
Rana assured them that such projects would be fast-tracked and instructed divisional officers to submit status reports without delay.
On forest-related matters, several deputations sought early disposal of claims under the Forest Rights Act. The Minister directed the Forest Department to examine all cases on merit and ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive their due rights.
Tribal delegations also flagged delays in developmental works under tribal sub-plans and demanded the establishment of additional Eklavya Model Residential Schools in underserved tribal areas.
Youth delegations raised concerns regarding employment opportunities and urged the government to create avenues for livelihood generation.
Other issues highlighted included the construction and repair of link roads in remote areas, settlement of revenue and land-record disputes, and the upgradation of healthcare and educational facilities.
Rana assured the delegations that all representations would be examined and forwarded to the concerned departments for time-bound action.
