Minister lauds Selangor’s accelerator as model for innovation collaboration

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 - The newly-launched Selangor Triple Accelerator Programme (STAP) 2026 builds on the success of the previous Twin Accelerator in strengthening the startup ecosystem, said Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Datuk Chang Lih Kang.

The collaboration between the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC) and the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) serves as a good example of strategic cooperation between federal and state governments to strengthen the pathway from innovation to commercialisation.

“This is a very good example where strategic cooperation is established between both state and federal government agencies, allowing us to develop the ecosystem in a more structured manner,” he said in his speech during the programme’s launch at MRANTI Park today.

Chang added that the government remains committed to supporting technology entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises (SME), and startups through research and development and commercialisation funding, standards development, and regulatory support, helping businesses scale regionally and globally.

STAP 2026 consists of three tracks: DeepX for deep technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and biotechnology; RetailX to help SMEs adopt digital and omnichannel operations; and TokenX focusing on digital assets, blockchain, and Web3 technologies.

Later, when speaking to the media, he said such programmes play an important role in building capacity and resilience across industries.

“I encourage all states to do the same, and federal agencies will provide the best cooperation and commitment to any state that intends to establish similar initiatives.

“I can see many good results and also very inspiring startups from this programme,” Chang said.

He noted that most participants are young entrepreneurs and that the structured training provided by SIDEC and MRANTI would help them improve their business skills, pitching abilities, and technological capabilities.

“With this systematic training, I hope it can help them become more successful in their careers,” Chang said.

The minister said that the accelerator programme is not limited to AI, but covers broader areas, including retail, deep technology, and tokenisation.

He also welcomed the introduction of SIDEC’s Vera AI, saying AI adoption remains a key priority under the national digital agenda.
