Delhi Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a vocational training centre for visually impaired persons at Narela, saying the facility will expand opportunities for skill development, employment and rehabilitation. The centre, being developed by the National Association for the Blind (NAB) on Narela-Bawana Road, will provide vocational and employment-oriented training, computer and technical education, rehabilitation services, hostel facilities, counselling, and other support services for visually impaired youth and persons with disabilities.

At the event, the minister reviewed the proposed project blueprint and was briefed on the planned facilities. Addressing the gathering, Singh said the government is committed to ensuring that vulnerable and underprivileged sections of society receive opportunities to live with dignity and self-respect.

“Visually impaired persons and other persons with disabilities are an important strength of society. Providing them with an appropriate platform to realise their potential remains a priority of the government,” he said. He added that the proposed centre will be more than a physical infrastructure project and will function as a hub for education, skill development, employment generation and confidence-building among visually impaired youth.
