Dato’s Seri Tiong King Sing ditched Chinese New Year celebration to help flood victims in Bintulu. Being a Member of Parliament (MP) for Bintulu since 25 years ago, his current act of bravery shows why he remained to be the people's choice in Bintulu.
According to The Star, due to the constant rain, Bintulu has experienced severe flooding, with water levels almost reaching the second floor of residential areas on the first day of Chinese New Year.
Dato’ Seri Tiong took it to his Facebook to update the current tragedy in Bintulu. “Water levels have increased to almost the second floor of residential buildings in the most affected areas. Many flood victims have been left stuck in their houses, waiting for rescue, especially women, children, and the elderly.” explained the Bintulu MP.

“I am incredibly appreciative of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for swiftly triggering its round-the-clock emergency response system at this crucial moment. The necessary authorities, such as the Malaysia Civil Defence Department, the Fire and Rescue Department, the police, and the military, have been quickly mobilized to conduct rescue and relief operations in the impacted areas through close collaboration with the Resident's Office.” said Dato' Seri Tiong.
The Bintulu MP also shared his sincere appreciation to Sarawak Deputy Premier and SDMC Chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, not forgetting the rescue personnel, relief teams, the members of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and the P217 Bintulu Service Centre team for stepping up in this crucial moment.
“The Chinese New Year officially begins on 28 January. In preparation for happy family reunions, colorful red decorations were placed in many homes. However, these homes have been demolished by an unrelenting downpour, which has resulted in significant financial losses and left families waiting hopelessly in relief centers for the floodwaters to subside before returning to the devastated areas. We cannot permit such suffering to befall the people of Bintulu once more,” said Dato' Seri Tiong.
